How to Use Beer Smash

Step-by-step instructions for matching beers, using beer powers, and beating levels.

Start Your First Level

Open Beer Smash and tap Play on the home screen. The level introduction shows:

  • The level’s goals
  • How many moves you have
  • The featured power — the beer you’ll create by matching four

Tap Play to begin.

Swap Two Beers

Swipe a beer toward a neighbor above, below, left, or right of it to swap them. Or tap one beer, then tap the one next to it.

A swap has to create a match of three or more of the same color. If it doesn’t, the beers snap back and no move is used. Every beer color also has its own shape — circle, triangle, diamond, cross, crescent, and square — so you can tell them apart at a glance.

Make Matches and Cascades

Matched beers clear and new beers pour in from above. If the falling beers line up into new matches, those clear too.

Each cascade wave raises your score multiplier — 1×, 2×, 3×, up to 5× — and cascades never cost a move. The multiplier resets on your next swap.

Complete the Level Goals

Each level has one or two goals shown at the top of the board:

  • Collect beers — clear a set number of beers of one or more colors
  • Clear foam — remove every foam layer from the marked cells
  • Deliver kegs — bring kegs down to the exits at the bottom of the board
  • Reach a score — hit the target before your moves run out

Complete every goal before the move counter reaches zero to win. Finishing a goal on your very last move still counts.

Create a Powered Beer

From level 5 on, bigger matches create powered beers, marked with gold symbols and borders:

  • Match four in a row → the level’s featured power
  • Match in a T or L shape → an IPA (once unlocked at level 20)
  • Match five in a straight line → a Stout (once unlocked at level 30)

The powered beer appears where you made the match and keeps its color — except Stout, which is colorless.

Set Off a Power

There are three ways to activate a powered beer:

  • Match it with beers of its color
  • Swap it with any neighboring beer — it fires even without a match
  • Hit it with another power, setting off a chain reaction

Stout can’t be matched. Swap it with a beer and it hits every beer of that color on the board.

Combine Two Powers

Swap two powered beers into each other to combine them:

  • Lager + Lager — two rows and two columns
  • Lager + Pilsner — three rows and three columns
  • Lager + IPA — five rows and five columns
  • Pilsner + Pilsner — a 5 × 5 area
  • Pilsner + IPA — a 7 × 7 area
  • IPA + IPA — a 9 × 9 area
  • Stout + Stout — hits every cell on the board
  • Stout + any other power — turns every beer of that color into that power and sets them all off
  • Wheat Beer or Sour + another power — both powers fire

Clear Obstacles

  • Foam sits under beers. Each match or power hit on that cell removes one layer; some cells have two.
  • Crates block gravity and swaps. Match beside a crate or hit it with a power to damage it; some take two hits.
  • Locked beers can’t be swapped, but they can still be part of a match. Matching or hitting a locked beer clears the lock and the beer together.
  • Kegs can’t be matched or destroyed. Clear the beers beneath them so they drop, and they’re delivered when they reach an exit at the bottom of the board.

Use a Hint

Tap the Hint button during play to highlight a good move — hints prefer using or creating a powered beer when one would help. With Hints turned on in Settings, the game also highlights a move automatically after a few seconds without input.

Pause or Leave a Level

Tap Pause to resume, restart, open settings, or return to the map. Leaving a level asks you to confirm first — your current attempt is discarded, but completed levels and stars are kept.

If you close the app mid-level or get interrupted by a call, your board is saved. The home screen shows Resume level so you can continue exactly where you left off.

Earn Stars

  • Every win earns one star
  • Higher scores earn two or three stars
  • Each unused move adds 100 points to your score when you win

Stars never block your progress — winning always unlocks the next level. Replay any completed level from the level map to beat your best score. There are 600 stars to collect across the campaign.

Explore the Level Map

Tap Level map on the home screen to see every chapter, the stars you’ve earned, and upcoming beer unlocks. Use the chapter list button to jump between the 20 chapters, and tap any unlocked level to play or replay it.

Browse the Beer Catalog

Tap Beer catalog on the home screen to see each beer style you’ve unlocked, what its power does, and how to create it. Tap Replay tutorial on any style to practice it again.

Adjust Settings

Open Settings to change:

  • Music, Sound effects, and Haptics — each on or off independently
  • Hints — automatic move suggestions after a few idle seconds
  • Reduce Motion — follow your iOS setting, or always reduce large effects

Reset progress erases saved levels, stars, and settings from your iPhone. You’ll be asked to confirm first, and it cannot be undone.
